Research
Research provides the evidence base required for Tuina therapy to be internationally recognised. Although Tuina has a rich history within Traditional Chinese Medicine, scepticism remains in many parts of the world, particularly in Western biomedical contexts, where evidence-based validation is required for acceptance. The purpose of this pillar is to conduct rigorous, internationally coordinated studies that convincingly demonstrate Tuina therapy’s efficacy and mechanisms of action. Planned activities include large-scale multi-centre randomised controlled trials, comparative studies evaluating Tuina therapy against physiotherapy and other mainstream interventions, and systematic reviews that compile global evidence. These studies will utilise both traditional syndrome differentiation and internationally recognised biomedical outcome measures to ensure the findings are relevant across systems. Collaboration between universities, hospitals, and research institutes in Asia, Europe, and North America will be critical. The results of such research will provide a solid scientific foundation for guideline development, inform policy, and build confidence among practitioners and patients in both Eastern and Western medical systems.
